New Year, New Habits — Building Independence One Choice at a Time
A new year often brings pressure to change everything at once. This month, we’re doing something different. Instead of big resolutions, we’re focusing on small, meaningful habits that support independence, confidence, and self-trust.
Independence doesn’t mean doing life alone. It means having the tools, routines, and confidence to navigate life in a way that works for you. Throughout January, our weekly calls will explore habits that strengthen independence in daily living, self-advocacy, and mindset, one step at a time.
What to Expect This Month
Week 1: Rethinking Independence. We’ll start by redefining what independence really means and identifying where we already show up strong. Small habits can create powerful shifts, especially when they fit naturally into daily life.
Week 2: Practical Habits for Daily Living. This week focuses on routines, organization, and systems that support independence—without overwhelm. We’ll also talk about asking for help confidently while maintaining autonomy.
Week 3: Confidence & Self-Advocacy. Confidence is a habit, not a personality trait. We’ll explore how to speak up for our needs, advocate for ourselves, and build self-trust through consistent action.
Week 4: Making Habits Stick. We’ll reflect on what worked, adjust what didn’t, and choose habits that feel sustainable long-term. Progress matters more than perfection.
Sister Spotlight

This month we’re spotlighting Brittany! We’ve loved getting to know her, watching her personality blossom, and seeing her ever-present spirit—always ready to greet someone and show up on our weekly calls.
January Affirmation
“My independence grows every time I choose what works for me.”
Birthdays This Month
We want to give a special birthday shout out to our sisters Khalisha (Jan. 19th), Velma (Jan. 21st), and Hatasha (Jan. 26th) and to anyone else who is celebrating a birthday this month. May this year be filled with many blessings and opportunities for you!
Final Announcements
Each call is a space for honest conversation, shared wisdom, and sisterhood. Come as you are. Try what works. Leave what doesn’t.
Let this month be about progress, not pressure—and about building independence in ways that honor who you are today.
For Traveling Sisterhood members, don’t forget: If you are planning on going on the Annual Sisterhood trip this year, your first deposit is due February 15, 2026. If you do not make a payment by then, you will not be attending the retreat this year. We appreciate your understanding and more information will be provided once we have a final count. We can’t wait!
With love,
Sisterhood of the Traveling Canes Team
